A Special Knit~And a Giveaway

I woke up yesterday morning feeling *off*. I've felt that way every September 11th since 2001. What a horrible, life changing day. I did not personally lose anyone in those planes or towers...but many of my friends did. Much has changed in my life since that fateful morning....but that feeling of shock and dismay that I felt on September 11th remains in my memory.

So, as I began my knitting work yesterday, my heart just was not in it. I wanted to do something for my children...something lasting for them. I have had a gorgeous single ply from Selah in my stash for a long time. Prayer Flags just seemed like the right thing to knit...so I went off to Ravelry to find the right quick knit.

I found a pattern for a lovely little lace cowl...I knew that I could knit it up quickly, and it would keep Emma cozy, warm and wrapped in a little love this fall and winter. Out came my needles, and I knit while Emma and Bear played around me. It was really quite nice. Here's the completed cowl...which is now called a neck warmer, as Emma thought I was calling it a "cow". ;)

Because I enjoyed this knit so much, and because I believe that we could all use a little hug, I'd like to knit one up as a gift to one of you. It won't be in this colorway, and may be a solid color of my choice, but it will be this pretty little lace cowl. I can do a child size as pictured, or an adult size. All you need to do it leave a comment with a positive thought about anything at all. What a lovely day you have today, how plentiful your garden is, or just how nice it is to be loved....any little positive thought at all. I will use a random number generator to select the winner on September 20th. Please make sure I have a way to contact you. :)

My daughter was born 7 weeks early and spent her fist month of life in the NICU. I'm blessed every day to hear her walking around chattering up a storm. Today she said Apple (she is 15 months old).

I loved being snuggled at home with the kids today during the rainstorm, knowing they were safe and enjoying each other's company.

Thanks, Monica!

the cowl is beautiful but the child in the picture wearing it is so much more precious! I am so thankful that over 4 years ago God put so many wonderful women, just like you MOnica in my life. You are a true blessing to me and I love you for who you are!

What a lovely little "cow".
I am so blessed to have my children and even more blessed to spend all my time with them. I was so filled with joy watching my 1 yr old chase my 4 yr old back and for to different rooms laughing and giggling. How sweet and innocent they are.

How incredibly thoughtful! Not only is your knitting beautiful, but it IS so important to stop and be thankful once in awhile for all that we've been blessed with.

For me, one of the sweetest things of each and every day is walking into my daughter's room when she wakes up in the morning, only to see her happy face and the sweet sounds of "mamamama!!!"

That's such a lovely piece, what pattern did you use?

My current positive thought is about growth. I was having a freak out moment earlier, thinking I wasn't making enough milk again and my husband reminded me about how just hours earlier I told him that DS2 had grown 1/2 inch in the past 3 weeks. So I'm focusing on how much he's growing in order to focus less on my anxiety and grow myself.

Oh that cowl is beautiful, as is your daughter!
I'm blessed with 2 beautiful daughters and now a fabulous 7 mo. old granddaughter. Madysen is the bestest!
Thanks for the lovely giveaway! Take care.

Beautiful 'cow'! I love seeing the projects you share on DS. I have such good memories of my Grandma knitting. Most of those include her teaching me how to knit and sew. Now, every time I make something for my own kiddos, it's like they are being wrapped up in a big hug from their great-grandma. Even though they've never met her, I know they can feel her love.

Aww Mama what an amazing reason for making your wee one her cow lol,
I love watching my children(and dayacre children) play together, it is so rewarding seeing the grow, I am amazed when I see the positive things I model to teach them being shown in the way they love nad care for each other.

I love that I'm able to hold my little guy today. At 1 month old he was close to death. I've got him in his moby all cuddled up, having dialysis and eating from his feeding tube. I am so thankful for technology (and God) that has allowed my little guy to live.

Aw, what a sweet idea. The cow!
I love when I am drowsy in the morning and my daughter plays with me, feeding me food she has prepared or doing my hair, or otherwise enjoying her mommy 'doll' while letting me sleep a little longer.
